ARTS & CRAFTS COURSES 2008/9

 

 

10)  HAND EMBROIDERY

Tutor: Susanne White

Three separate course, enabling you to produce individual work to be proud of, all held from 10.00 am to 1.00 pm, at The Studio, Fairmount, Rue du Dos D’Ane, Castel.  Advice on materials and equipment will be given on enrolment.

(i)   ‘Trees’  In the landscape or close up, exploring the diversity of the subject.  8 sessions on Mondays, commencing on 06 October 2008.  Fee £80.

(ii)  ‘Couching’  Exploring the technique to produce abstract or landscape images.  6 sessions on Fridays, commencing on 09 January 2009.  Fee £60.

(iii)  ‘Pattern’  Looking at patterns and techniques from India and Asia.  6 sessions on Wednesdays, commencing on 25 February 2009.  Fee £60.

11)  PATCHWORK

Tutor: Leila Le Messurier

Two separate courses, exploring different techniques and designs of patchwork.  Advice on materials and equipment will be given on enrolment.  Both courses held from 7.15 pm to 9.15 pm, at St Martin’s Community Centre.

(i)        Appliqué and patchwork:  Using the techniques to make anything from a bag, seasonal wall hanging, or even a quilt.

8 sessions on Thursdays, commencing 02 October 2008.

      Fee £60.

(ii)  Patchwork    Curves:  Machine-stitching ‘Applecore’, ‘Drunkard’s Path’, ‘Winding Ways’, or hand-stitching ‘Double Wedding Ring’.

       10 sessions on Thursdays, commencing on 15 January 2009.

       Fee £80.

12)  DRAWING FOR ALL

Tutor: John White

A structured drawing course, developing observational skills and incorporating a variety of techniques and materials.

A two-term course of 8 sessions each, on Fridays, 9.30 am11.30 am, at the Castel Douzaine Room.

Commencing on 10 October 2008, and recommencing on 16 January 2009.

Fee £100.

13)   KNITTING FOR BEGINNERS

Tutor: Leila Le Messurier

3 sessions on Saturdays, 01, 15, 29 November 2008, 9.30 a.m. – 11.30 a.m., at the Grammar School.

14)  ONE-DAY CRAFT WORKSHOPS

Tutor: Jenny Mahy

All workshops are on Saturdays from 10.00 am to 4.00 pm.  Nos. (i), (ii) and (iii) will take place at the Vale Douzaine Room.  Nos. (iv), (v) and (vi) will take place at St. Martin’s Community Centre.

(i) ‘Cake’ Trinket Box:  A simple box construction technique to make a whimsical ‘iced bun’ trinket box.

Saturday 11 October 2008.

(ii) Working with Metal Shim and sheers to create a distinctive notebook cover or small picture.

Saturday 08 November 2008.

(iii) Textile Jewellery: Make a fabric necklace, brooch or corsage, using simple hand-sewing techniques and silk fabric strips.

Fee:  £30

(iv) Darned Landscape ‘Under the hedgerow’: Complete a small embroidered picture, using fabric strips and simple stitches.

Saturday 17January 2009.

(v) Working with Transfoil: Experiment with transfoils and metallic papers to create a small picture or notebook cover.

Saturday 14 February 2009.

(vi) Tassel Making: Create one or more tantalising tassels.

15)  MOSAICS

Tutor: Genevieve Langford

A short course on mosaic making, focusing on one project, taking it from idea stage to finished piece.  All materials will be provided, at an approximate cost of £50, payable to the tutor.

3 sessions on Mondays, 10.00 am to 1.00 pm, at The Gallery, Mansell Street.

Commencing 10 November 2008.

16)  INTRODUCTION TO RAG CRAFT

Tutor: Alison Teed

A course of two Saturday mornings, learning about different methods, materials and tools, and producing a small article.  Patterns, some materials and tools available from the Tutor; details to be supplied on enrolment.

17)  GUERNSEY BONNETS

Tutor: Annette Creery

Come along and learn how to make a traditional Guernsey bonnet for either an adult, child or baby.  A list of materials will be supplied on enrolment.

3 Saturday mornings, 28 January, 07 and 14 February 2009, 9.30 am - 12.00 noon, at St Martin’s Community Centre.

Fee £35.
